Discover the timeless art of vintage angling.

AgeingAngler is for Anglers that like and use all things vintage for their angling.

We like to celebrate the rich history and enduring appeal of classic angling by using rods, reels & others items from that bygone era..

Our Vintage Angling

At AgeingAngler, we use a range of rods & reels that connect us with the heritage of vintage angling and joy that goes with it.

Vintage tackle we own & use.

Here is our FWK Wallis all rounder, but on other days it could be the The Mk1V Avon, The Olympic, The Chapman 500, The Super Wizard split cane or one of the many Hardy's or Bruce & Walker glass fibre rods from the 60's

Vintage tackle we would like to own.

If you own classic rods, reels or accessories & would like them to go to  a new home that would ensure they last for generations to come, please contact us for a valuation/offer.

A wet & strange day

Rain forecast at the fishery for 07.30 today, so set out to arrive at 07.00 to get set up. Starting rain at 06.45 on the way there...good start..set up in the rain. Set up my Bruce & Walker S/U Avon/Carp rod with 10lb line and a size 6 Ronnie rig with a mix of 10/12/16mm pop ups. All in all had around a dozen runs and missed 11of them, the one I did hit felt like a lump, but proceeded to bury itself in a weed bank until the line finally gave way after 15 mins of tugging & pulling...Meanwhile set up a pellet waggler rod and had one take rewarding me with a 7lb 11oz Common... Finished the day with a roach on sweetcorn....So all in all a busy, damp/wet day with little to show for it....

Beaten yet again....

With storms & heavy rain forecast I stayed under the duvet till 8 am this morning, then once it started to clear packed the gear, picked up my Granddaughter & headed for or local WDNAC water at Ringstead....Bit of a mixed day weather wise, rain & cloud then baking sun, but the fish did feed. I only had the three a nice skimmer, a Chub & a very nice Crucian Carp, fishing with my Hardy Richard Walker Avon & float tackle close in with sweetcorn. Meanwhile the Granddaughter fishing with her trusty pole on the far bank & occasionally dropping back in the margins, managed 14 Carp to 4lb, a Tench's Bream & a Roach.......Good practice for her match tomorrow....

Another Tench Session

Up & on the bank as the sun came up this morning, after those elusive Tinca's..On arrival, fed the swim with 3 good handfuls of micro pellets & half a can of sweetcorn while I got set up. Once settled with my newest acquisition a Chapman 500 paired with my Rapidex & 6lb line we were good to go. So on goes a Korum size 14 Power hook with 2 grains of sweetcorn followed by another handful... At 7am the float slid under & we were in, a rather nice 4lb 10oz Tinca,, Then we have the Rudd move back in for a couple of hours. We finally had another Tench but only one of last years litter at 9oz, a pristine beauty. Caught a small Perch on sweetcorn! Finally upped sticks around 10am and moved to another lake...Had a few roach & lost a good carp when it threw the hook after giving it some slack to get him out of the dense weed. Packed up not long after lunch..Not a bad session all in all....

Afternoon Session

So after the bites drying up on our Tench pool I moved down to WDNAC Ringstead Fishery...Setting up the same rod & reel with 6lb line & sweetcorn on a 14 hook, restarted again...It turned out to be quite a good 3 hour session in the heat. We had 3 Roach to 7oz, 3 Silver Bream to 2lb 3oz & 2 Mirror Car to around the 3lb+ mark. So all in all a good day all-round...

Early morning session

Up & out on the bank for 6am this morning, with my Allcocks Super Wizard & my Rapidex centre pin after those elusive Tincas. After feeding the swim they finally took the float under just after 9am. I had 3 fish at 5lb 13oz, 6lb 6oz & 3lb 12oz all within the space of 45 mins and then they were gone. Now I'm not a specimen hunter or a must have a net full of fish person, I just love my style of angling & what it stands for. So 3 fish in less than an hour 2 of which around the 6lb mark is up there was a bit of a red letter moment...

Thursday 30th July

Today saw us on the bank at 05.45 in pursuit of more Tench.. Starting off as we had finished last week, we set up the B.James Olympic with Rapidex reel with 8lb line, free lining double sweetcorn on a 14 hook whilst feeding 2mm pellets & loose sweetcorn... Not a sniff for over two hours, so switched to the float...Within 15 mins we had a couple of Rudd, then at 09.05 we had our first Tench of 3lb 5oz followed 10 mins later by another of 3lb 3oz. Fished at 5ft deep on the bottom with a single grain of sweetcorn. No more Tench but ended up with another 10 Rudd between 5 -8oz.

An early morning Tench session

Wednesday the 22nd July saw us on an early morning Tench session at a small syndicate water we belong to in deepest Leicestershire. After trying mussels & I have to admit it, a dreaded pop up for a couple of hours with the method feeder & 2mm crab pellets.I switched to double sweetcorn on the 14 hook & loosefed over the top. Thirty minutes later the swingtip jumped into life & a lovely 6lb 3oz Tinca was on the unhooking mat.
